Permanent Sessional Instructor Position
The School of Human Kinetics at Laurentian University

The School of Human Kinetics invites applications for a Permanent Sessional Instructor position commencing August 1, 2010.

The successful candidate will be expected to primarily teach outdoor activity and theory courses, and will also be able to certify students in some outdoor activities. The candidate will also be able to teach other activity and theory courses within the School of Human Kinetics. Candidates should have a Master’s degree in a related discipline or appropriate professional qualifications. The successful candidate must be able to work fluently, oral and written, in both official languages, English and French, in particular, the candidate must be able to teach in both languages.

Canoe Guide Wanted
Call Of The Wild requires an Algonquin Park canoe guide for 3-4 day wilderness canoe trips throughout the summer from mid July till early October.  Trips will be every Friday to Sunday, and Monday to Thursday. 
  • Guides must have ORCKA Trip Leader certifications
  • Competitive Rates - $100-$125/day depending on experience
  • Guiding, Canoeing and Hiking Experience necessary
  • CPR and Wilderness First Aid necessary
  • Valid Drivers Licence necessary as guide must be able to drive clients to and from Algonquin Park.
  • Should live in the GTA as you will need to start and end all trips there, and shop/pack/clean gear for trips in Markham.

Head of Canoeing and Kayaking

Camp New Moon is a children’s overnight camp located on the Lake of Bays in Muskoka. We offer a full canoe and kayak program (flat water). With over 30 canvas covered canoes, 30 kayaks and 2 war canoes, an instructional and recreational program is offered to children aged 8-16.  The director of the program would supervise a staff be responsible for the canoe and kayaking program, and contribute to the broader leadership of camp along with the other head staff.  If you love kids and are enthusiastic, responsible, and want a camp environment to work in, this is a great summer job! The program focuses on both soloing and tandem canoe skills, in addition to basic kayaking techniques. The war canoes are used for instructional, recreational and racing programs as well.  A bronze medallion and preferably bronze cross is required for water safety.

Pay: $2800-$3500 (June 28-Aug 22); additional work possible in August for university groups and a canoe trip on Labour Day weekend.

Dedicated to serving people and the environment, we offer wilderness vacation packages, programs, guided and self guided canoe trips and instruction for individuals, organizations, friends and families. Temagami waters are clean and clear, the portage trails and campsites are well maintained. Twenty five percent of the world’s fresh water is in Northern Ontario making for amazing canoe tripping. There are 25 hundred km of well mapped and documented canoe routes and hiking trails in the Temagami region. Over the years, our facility has become a rendezvous point for canoeists and adventurers paddling through the region, many of whom have traveled from all over the world to experience this pristine wilderness.

The Canadian Canoe Museum is Hiring!

Position: Camp Instructors (2)
Contract: June 30th to August 3rd, 2010
Pay: $2,400 + training

The Canoe Museum is looking for 2 energetic individuals to lead CanoeKids Paddling Camp this summer.  Paddling Camp will be a series of four 5-day long canoeing day camps spent at the Canoe Museum and on the Otonabee River in Peterborough.  Along with following the ORCKA Flatwater Canoeing Program, a strong emphasis is placed on the art of canoeing, along with the stories, songs, crafts and games that are associated with canoeing in Canada.

The Canadian Canoe Museum is Hiring!

Position: Instruction of ORCKA Canoe Tripping 3 (Trip Leader) course
Contract: August 16th to 20th, 2010 
Pay: $1000

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • ORCKA member in good standing.
  • ORCKA Canoe Tripping Instructor 2, Moving Water Instructor 2
  • Advanced Wilderness First Aid & CPR
  • Bronze Cross (NLS preferred).
  • Current and clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Checks.
  • Experience in delivering the ORCKA Canoe Tripping program.
  • Strong risk management skills and strong decision making abilities.
  • Ability to work with another person cooperatively as a leadership team.

Project Canoe is a non-profit charitable organization that uses the outdoors, including
wilderness canoe trips, to create a transformative environment in which our youth develop life skills, social competencies, and resiliency. We are looking for enthusiastic canoe trippers to join our summer 2010 team. At Project Canoe, you will lead 5-day, 8-day, and/or 12-day canoe camping trips in awe-inspiring Temagami. Along with one other co-staff, you will be leading canoe trips for youth between the ages of 13 and 18.
